Why everyone is miserable on Tinder

Most men on Tinder just swipe right 80%+ of the time, looking only at the cover photo. Lots of guys just right swipe on everything. Pretty much unless the girl is obviously extremely unattractive in the first picture, she gets a right swipe.

This is the impression I get on r/Tinder and elsewhere too, but my match rate is woefully low - when I'm selective, I only match with a third, or often a lot less, of the guys I swipe yes to. It has been a massive blow to my ego TBH when there's this whole rhetoric online about straight guys swiping right indiscriminately. i.e. If they don't swipe right on you, you must be super ugly. In fact, I did go ahead and assume I was ugly, until I then went on the speed dating night and got a very high number of ticks/yeses. So now I'm confused! One of these days, I need to do a run of swiping right to everyone and then see what my match rate is then. Any females done this? It seems like guys on reddit can produce their match stats at a drop of a hat! Out of my single friends, the only one on Tinder other than me is coy about her stats!
