Yes but cultural ties are a legitamate reason to reject a proposal in islam as long is you have other proposals with in your own culture. As far as I remember all 3 fiqhs except for the hanafi fiqh have said this but then even the hanafi fiqh this was corrected because the scholars discovered that imam abu hanifas ruling went against, the prophets hadith. But again these are not black and white matters where you are allowed to reject every single rishta.

We also have to look at how did the son or daughter find their match in the first place. I don't think I have to tell you but in most of the cases it is through free mixing. Before anyone says provide evidence, look at muslims in your own university, school and work places and tell me how much they are following islam.
