For how long do you expect to use a mid-range phone?

Talking from experience: it all depends on the midranger.

My mom has a 2014 Moto G, my dad has a 2015 Moto G, my sister has a Nexus 5x, and I had an Asus Zenfone 2 - all three are on the low to mid-end.

Mom doesn't really install apps, the only social media she uses much is Facebook and YouTube. Her Moto G's still going strong, her only complaint is that the camera is poor. For her, this phone will keep kicking until it dies.

Dad installed a few common apps, but doesn't use much social media outside of Facebook and YouTube. Like Mom, his Moto G is still kicking. He loves that it's waterproof since he's the outdoorsy type, and after several camping trips, it no worse for the wear. It'll probably last him a plenty long while, too.

My sister loves her Nexus 5x. She installs a ton of social media apps, and is always taking photos. She loves the phone in all respects except for the battery - and the bootlooping. She had to get the phone repaired due to the infamous LG bootloop. The device is essentially terminal, but she's planning to stick with it until it dies.

I opted for an Asus ZenFone 2. It was an overhyped piece of shit that overheated regularly, wasn't compatible with many apps/games (thanks, x86 chip), had a mediocre camera, and a lot of glitchy software updates (and early software abandonment). Eventually the SIM card readers just died - a common problem on the device. So I gave up and replaced it. Wish it'd have lasted longer, but poor QC and awful software support made it hellish to use. I replaced it and moved on after only a year and a half.

tl;dr: Different devices and use cases will heavily impact your midranger experience. There's a lot of great ones out there! And some terrible dumpster fires. Do your research and check some user forums/testimonies before committing haha
