Is this gaslighting and how do I deal with this behavior? Started with the company only a few months ago, too soon to jump ship.

  1. Find a new job because this manager’s behaviour is not acceptable.
  2. That doesn’t negate the fact that there is a valid professional communication point to your “action item” not coming across as a request or “call to action”. I think that’s a very fair and valid insight by your colleague and it’s great that they have lended some advice. I would take it with you into your career for years to come. I don’t know about this manager in particular (who did not behave professionally), but many seniors and even juniors are very busy. They have emails, calls, meetings, problems and many things vying for their attention. Every communication touch point must be clear and explicit, even start your email subject with it if/when possible eg, “Action Item: xyz” or “Request for Approval: xyz”

There may be some good email and workplace communication tips and videos you can Google.

Good luck on finding a new workplace!!
