Girlfriend of Four Years Wants a 'Break'

Had a similar experience. I was in a relationship for two years, during college. At one point I felt the need to reevaluate my life and choices. I spent everyday with this guy and we really loved eachother but I just wanted some time to collect myself. Didn't want to break up, but wanted space, he respected that. It only lasted a week but I felt better by the end of it. I think its normal for people to want some space at least once in a long term relationship. I just needed to reevaluate my choices, I already knew I wanted to stay with him. I also agree that people are perfectly capable of finding themselves while in a relationship. For SOME people, finding themselves includes meeting new people and seeing what other fish are in the sea. Not necessarily pursuing them in any way, but not being tied down and having the option to do whatever. But obviously thats not the case for everyone. It seems like a tough situaion, maybe just give her what she wants. But if things start to get fishy, I would move on to someone thats thrilled to be around you. You cant wait around forever, need to do you.
