He’s trying to reframe an illegal obstruction of justice firing into an immoral political firing.
It’s a small difference, but saying that Trump fired Comey for not publicly stating Trump wasn’t a subject is subtly different to firing Comey to prevent Trump becoming a subject.
I don’t know if it will work since there was a lot of other acts of obstruction and public statements (and hell statements to the Russians during their first tour of the Oval Office...) that contradict this.
But that’s what I see Gulliani doing here.
Admit the fucking obvious, that it was about Russia, but try to frame it as a political optics rather than a legal decision.
