Growing up: rural town or big city?

Im in my 40's now and grew up with well off country bumpkin parents in a semi rural location. Nothing fancy, just on the periphery of a northern town.

Moved to urban living when I met my partner in my early 20's and stayed there for over 15 years. I can honestly say I would not change anything about my childhood whatsoever and am very grateful for growing up with so much nature, space, trees, animals, where I was able to dream and explore.

Have moved back to a rural location in past few years. I don't have kids and am a self supporting artist (so not wealthy!) but am very happy and content. My childhood had a lot to do with my urge to go back to 'nature'.

Most people I know who grew up in rural areas and later move on to urban say they loved growing up rurally.

If you have children who grow up in a rural place they will likely move out for education or work anyway, and will likely be keen to explore the city lifestyle. I personally find more to do in my rural area now than when I lived in a town of over 300,000 population. We have all sorts of groups and activities that many struggling, large towns don't have. And even you have money, the infrastructure of such places is the issue, even if you own a splendid detached home.
