I had to call the suicide hotline last night.

  1. Be honest. They can’t help if they don’t know what’s going on.
  2. Wording yourself a certain way is gonna be the difference between them feeling afraid and “angry” vs. them joining your side and helping you get help. Example: if you have any urges to self harm, saying really intense things and yelling/screaming at them isn’t gonna help. If you act a little bit calmer and say something like, “I don’t feel like I’m in a safe headspace, I feel like I could harm myself, and I really need help to get through these feelings”
  3. Please reach out for real medical help. Unfortunately, a lot of the people at hotlines work as volunteers and don’t get paid for any of this. I’ve heard a lot of experiences where people didn’t receive any help or relief. Visiting a doctor or therapist is going to fare much better in the end
