‘I Had to Drive 600 Miles for My $800 Abortion’

Imagine that I gave you a brand new novelty car. You look into it and find it's going to be a huge financial burden that you aren't in a good place to handle, you won't have time to drive it, and your lifestyle isn't compatible with this kind of vehicle. After giving it some thought, you decide to sell it.

I step in and tell you that you can't sell it. I force you to take a huge hit from taxes, insurance, and maintenance. I also dictate that you have to drive it. If I'm nice, I may choose to help you financially, but that doesn't help with your other concerns. What if you miss out on a career advancement opportunity because your boss thinks your car is unprofessional? What if you lose family and friends over this car? What if you have an accident and its poor safety rating gets you seriously hurt?

You did not choose the car. You have all the risk and responsibility but not the rights if I choose to exert mine.

There is more to it than that emotionally. People are more complicated than cars, but fair and equal are not always the same thing.
