I haven't done anything to my hair in nearly a decade and I need tips!

My best haircuts have been going to a well-rated, usually more expensive salon and just telling my hairdresser a few guidelines of what I want (general length, ability to be air dried, something that will grow out nicely, no bangs, no razor, etc) and just let the hairstylist have fun with it. I end up with really cute cuts (and sometimes colors) that I wouldn't have thought of, and I'm usually really happy when I leave. I only get my haircut 1-2 times a year, so I usually don't mind paying more for someone good, and because it's a good cut, it lasts a super long time too. I've had a few hairdressers tell me that cutting my hair was super fun, and one that told me she felt like edward scissorhands.

Another option is to just google something like "trendy haircuts 2017" and this will pull up tons and tons of haircut ideas. Save a few different pictures and go to someone reputable (someone with our hair can not go to costcutters, don't do that to yourself) and ask if they could do it for you.

You don't have to do anything drastic, build it up. Go get a cute cut, maybe next time go get some color done; hair grows and nothing you do it is permanent. If you don't like something, you can always just stick it in a braid for a bit and grow it out and get another cut. That's why I usually just let the hairdresser do their thing; if for some reason it's not something I like, it doesn't matter because it will grow out again, and now I know something new about my preferences.
