Hillary Clinton to get 6 chairs to write the party platform, Bernie sanders to get 5. DWS to appoint the other 4. Do you guys think this will have a big effect on the platform?

My guess is this: Clinton and her picks purposely roll over and concede uncontested to Bernie's platform. In exchange, Bernie will give his support for Clinton and play nice. And it can't just be lukewarm support, it will be guaranteed media appearances and rally appearances. They also agree to explore simplifying the primary process in the future as well.

Why? Clinton knows this isn't going to be an issue based election, at all. Anything that seems unpalatable to the electorate or too extreme isn't going to matter in November. The platform is irrelevant. It's purely a strategic move that is made in order to placate Bernie, and she knows she's not really beholden to any of it. And besides, she'll just tie her hands by saying yeah we can try to do this stuff, but you better get me a Congress to do it. Essentially issuing a challenge to Bernie supporters that this platform is possible but impossible without their participation.

And Bernie does it because in his heart of hearts, I don't think he wants to be the one to lead to Trump being POTUS. He worked under Bush. And if he can actually get the primary process changed, something has come out of this and not just a meaningless placation of the platform if he feels the reassurance to change the primary process will actually be enacted.

The platform is the key to any steps of unity. And I think Bernie supporters would be correct in questioning its legitimacy as a meaningful concession because like I said, it's all just talk. But that's where the primary process changes come in. But even still, Clinton would be wise to almost concede unilaterally on the populist stuff because I do believe the polls are showing us that the Bernie or Bust phenomenon may have some legs. And those legs will still be needed in swing districts for Congress.
