How did you overcome the psychological fear/anxiety of spending so much money on a wedding?

We had the money but we decided not to spend it all that way. For the price of our initially planned wedding, we could both spend 4 months traveling to every destination we had on our life bucket list. Or a one day celebration. The perspective really set in and we changed plans around to have a small celebration instead. A ceremony in the park with a picnic where all the food was done by us the day before. We still hired a photographer and I still got a dress and it was a fancy event, but all said and done it cost maybe 4k. Then we took 12k of our savings and booked plane tickets and hotels and activities and I can't even describe how excited I am!!!! The rest of the wedding money is staying in our savings for our future. No regrets at all. It doesn't have to be a big expensive event if you don't want it to.
