How would you feel? How would you act?

Hey I was in this exact situation. My boss actually almost died. He’s come a very long way, it’s almost like it didn’t happen (although sometimes it’s hard to tell just how much long covid has affected him). As a person, he’s great. One of the nicest people I’ve ever met. And he wasn’t a bad boss, but wasn’t great either. When he suddenly went out, I had to step in and fill most of the void. I say most, because his boss also helped. And I have to say, I killed it and was doing the job better than he was. It was a pretty effortless transition and because of that, when my boss came back, we essentially switched positions. Yes, it’s awkward, but he’s an understanding guy who’s just happy to be alive and have a job after that.

So I understand how you feel. People might say you don’t deserve his job because you didn’t earn it. It just fell into your lap. And then you feel guilty because he could die. Imposter syndrome sinks in. But you do deserve it. You do work hard and you’re good at the job.
