Why is it that people simply can't accept that every country doesn't necessarily want unfettered immigration, or thousands of economic migrants pouring through their borders? Why when a country wants to maybe take a breather and not feel the need to exponentially increase their population does it need to be blamed on some nefarious media conspiracy?

Japan takes in almost zero refugees, and immigration is also almost zero. Japan also has one of the lowest crime rates in the world. One may or may not be linked to the other, but simply parroting that mass immigration is necessary and always a good thing because that's what people have been saying the last 20 years doesn't make it true.
