Hurt Locker Open Dev Dump #3: Weapons and Equipment

Someone replied to me on the forums, so I'm going to paste my reply to them here.

I think you've maybe got your wires crossed a bit, This isn't Armoury 2nd Ed nor is it trying to be. The outline for the book

Says [some stuff]

I know, I saw this when it was published, and I was worried then when I wasn't sure exactly how far they would take the philosophy they were talking about. I was assured at the time by another onyx path employee on reddit that the author knows what he's doing and will handle it with care.

Now that my fears have been confirmed, I'm bitching again. It's fine if they release armory 2e some time and this book isn't that, I suppose. I fear, however, that this book is intended to take its place without filling its shoes (or that they'll focus on other things for a long time now that they have a "kind of combat book" out already), and that leaves gamers like me out to dry. I'd at least like to make them aware that there are those of us out there who wanted an armory 2e, and are still waiting.

Plus, "the differences between two different 9mm manufacturers" is much much different from "the difference between an intermediate cartridge and a full-powered cartridge" or "the difference between bolt-action with a 3 round mag and semi-auto with a 10 round mag," all of which are much different from "this game doesn't support light machine guns."

Honestly, the way I was hoping it would go is the following:

Pistol Caliber Weapons Light Auto Pistols ~9mm Heavy Auto Pistols ~.45 cal Oversized Auto Pistols ~.50 cal Light Revolvers ~.38 cal Magnum Revolvers ~.44 cal Oversized Revolvers ~.45-70/.50 cal Light SMGs ~9mm Heavy SMGs ~.45 cal Light Pistol Caliber Carbines ~.38/9mm Heavy PCCs ~.44/.45

Rifle Caliber Weapons Intermediate Bolt Action ~5.56mm Assault Rifle ~5.56mm Full-Power Bolt Action ~7.62mm/.3x cal Battle Rifle ~7.62mm Light MG ~7.62mm Oversized Bolt Action ~.50cal Oversized Semiauto ~.50cal Heavy MG ~.50 cal

Shotguns Light Shotguns ~20ga Heavy Shotguns ~12ga Oversized Shotguns ~10/8ga

And then whatever for different ammo types that modifies the main caliber (soft/hollow point, buckshot, slugs, whatever) And capacity wouldn't be dictated at you except on revolvers and , because anything with a removable magazine can accept bigger magazines than standard. Shotguns can be any type of action, can be breach loaded, tube fed, accept box mags, etc.

This still wouldn't be nitpicking based on manufacturer, but it would represent many more weapon options, especially in a world where you'd be insane to take on half the things that could fuck up your day without something chambered in .50 BMG.

Hell, they're welcome to use this list without paying or crediting me, I just want the game to be better.
