At the end of the day, everybody knows that women and men are not the same. And this is a perfect demonstration of a difference that favors women.

Women are superior caretakers because they evolved to have that role and are better suited for it. Men are superior providers because that is the role that they evolved to have. This explains the wage gap and the custody gap.

Obviously these are both extremely broad generalizations. There is a significant chunk of the population that wont fit into this. It's important that we organize society in a way that recognizes all of the many exceptions and doesnt try to force them into the "usual" role, so that they can use their strengths just like everybody else.

I think it's important to realize that there is some degree of truth to the idea that gender roles are natural and will result in statistical differences between genders. And there is also some degree of truth to the idea that if society tries to force people who are exceptions into these roles it will be problematic, both for those individuals and for society overall.
