If OWL wants to appeal to fans outside of the player base they will need to improve resources for understanding the game.

I think It's possible. I've been watching MMA (UFC) for a long time now and have seen how casuals have learnt about grappling by observing and listening to quality commentating. Back in the day the ground game was boo'ed a lot because of the lack of understanding, but over the years it became less and less with fans even reacting to ground game tactics that are not intuitively understood. I've noticed that the casters have been more active with educating new fans. I think the problem is keeping new viewers engaged to stick around long enough to learn.

Off topic. In my opinion the OWL production has borrowed a lot from UFC presentation and structure which is great. Mainly from the desk. Most recent addition was the 30 second countdown 'Whose gonna win" argument between Soe and another caster which I believe was inspired by Ariel Helwani and The Bad guy (Chael S) from ESPN.
