If you woke up to find you were still 14 years old, and you had just been dreaming of what adult life might be like, how would you react?

Let’s see...I would be so excited for the future because the following things were not around when I was 14:

DVDs, smartphones, flat screens, electric cars, email and the web, GPS, bagless vacuums, answering machines, call waiting, computer mice, CDs, USB drives, mp3s, hundreds of cable channels, TV was free and you got up to change the channel, reality TV shows, E readers, drones, digital cameras- you had to wait for film to be developed and see if the picture came out, handheld devices

Life was different socially:

AIDS was still killing people and so scary. There was an extreme fear of “catching it” and it was a death sentence for anyone with it. Homosexuality was not acceptable. Russia was a threat to nuke us, and we daydreamed of something like Red Dawn happening. Russia was the “bad guys”. High school kids could smoke if they were old enough in school. You met friends in person, or talked on the phone. Skating was rad and we built our own ramps with friends in each others driveways. MTV only played music. Madonna and Michael Jackson were so cool. Marijuana was dangerous, and crack was ruining inner cities. Crimes couldn’t be solved with DNA. We went to arcades and skating rinks, and everyone wanted to break dance but most could only do the worm or the wave with your arms. No one wanted to be a nerd or a geek.

I’d be thrilled, because I would try to recreate the technology that was developed in the last 10-20 years, and become a millionaire. I’d also try and remember all of the stupid mistakes of adulthood, and have a chance to redo the worst ones.

I’d finish my degree in Comp Sci earlier, and would never waste time on a psychology degree. I’d hug my Mom 10 times a day and tell her how much she meant to me.
