The warning you are making isn't that the author is willing to expose other people's children to something harmful in order to get wealthy, the warning is that the author is willing to expose their own children to get wealthy.

This jumps the argument from "beware of evil greed" to "beware of insanity", as only an insane person would sell their own children's health for a bit of cash. And I just don't see the author as being insane.
