I'm not an au pair.

I understand your frustration with being called an Au Pair instead of a nanny. I do have to say tho that your post comes a little off stating that Au pairs are 19 years old girls with no experience that just wanted to filled a gap in the summer and work 20-30h. I came to US as an Au Pair when I was 24 (almost 25) years old, I had a degree in journalism and also plenty of hours with kids (worked in daycare, church, babysitting, etc). I took care of a 3 month old baby for 45h week and it was pretty much what I do right now as a nanny for much lower price. The experience I didn’t have was mainly cultural - the routine, sleep schedule, etc was very different from my home country and I learned a lot here. But I had training in CPR, infant care and cultural changes provided by the agency. The program is so tough for some many girls and I was very lucky that my host family was amazing. I just don’t consider myself the way you described, I had the same responsibilities I have now (taking care of an infant!!) and took my job very seriously.
