How long do you let your NK try to fall asleep before getting them out?

NK did sleeptraining with an official sleep trainer. Yes, they exist! I went through it too. I don’t remember exactly but this is the gist: She needed to start the process with resting for a minimum 45 minutes, even if she didn’t fall asleep. Lights off, preferably white noise. She didn’t have to sleep but, the person sleeping with her started laying next to her bed and we had to “rest” and not respond to her stimuli (and believe me, there was plenty of that!) Then I ended up “resting” at the door. And then I ended up in the hallway, and now she stays in the bedroom and puts herself to sleep if she wants to sleep. She’s almost 3 and stays in there for rest time for an hour max, from the time I leave the room. If she wakes up upset, I know which cries are genuine I go in early. Or when she bangs on the door yelling my name lol. She likes to look at her books and her stuffed animals. Tbh we even had an outside door lock because she’d open the door. It really sounds barbaric but we didn’t have to use it after a few tries.
