With all due respect, you’re asking the wrong question. I’ve been there. It’s so much easier to try to analyze the other person’s behavior and come up with a reason for everything to help you make sense of it. And maybe to help you rationalize maintaining a relationship with this person. But here’s the real question: what value is this person adding to your life? This isn’t how someone who cares about you would behave so don’t waste time twisting yourself in knots so that you can find an excuse to keep him in your life. Cut him out. If you never speak to him again, you’ll find in time that his motivations no longer matter to you at all.
