I just got lectured by my girlfriend's dad about my hobbies.

what he thinks is irrelevant

lollll

yeah, until he asks for the dad's blessing to marry his daughter or wants to be positively involved in her family life. A lot of people actually care about their parents' opinions to an extent unless they have dysfunctional home lives. I'm sure in your /r/relationships-skewed understanding of human beings that you think everyone should just tell their family and friends to fuck off if they don't like the SO, but the truth is that many adults realize their parents have valuable things to add to the discourse.

And yeah. Being solely a gamer with some writing on the side is not well-rounded. Try having some kids and see how excited you are when they start dating a boring-ass one-trick pony. It would be just as lame as dating someone who only likes to hunt, or only likes to fish, or only likes to cook.

When one vocation primarily consumes a person, they become one dimensional.

It's sad how many younger people don't understand why its important to be well-rounded. Try it before you shit talk it.
