But, I can elaborate of course, Iran is both a combination of a predominantly Muslim country with mostly brown skinned people (the racism - Donald Trump said he wanted a total shutdown of Muslims entering in his campaign, and banning Iranians has the optics of doing something about this to his supporters moreso than Albanians.) and not an American ally. America and Iran are already upset with each other and don't have formal diplomatic relations, unlike Pakistan and Saudi Arabia which are close friends with the US. So there is no fall out to deal with.

Then there's historical precedent. NSEERS, the state sponsored program to discriminate against people from Muslim-majority countries under the Bush administration, also had Iran on their first list. Eventually, every major Muslim country was added since they wanted to stagger it, but Iran was on the first list.
