Khadr apology, payout is an insult to all the Canadian vets who fought for our right to torture imprisoned children

When I was 15 years old I clearly understood the difference between right and wrong and that if I actually harmed someone I could suffer serious permanent life-changing consequences. In fact, while we're at it, a number of things happened before I was 15 that permanent life-changing consequences, and many of those things were a result of my own fucking decisions. Serious heavy shit too.

This Khadr kid might not have made those decisions had he not been raised by assholes. But the issue is not what he could have done. He did it. And he paid the price. I'm okay with him getting that kind of lenience (instead of the bullet he asked for) because of the circumstances.

But, seriously, how does he get an entitlement to monetary reward here, for things that happened in a warzone? He was a terrorist. This is a fact, not an accident.

And to say that he was a soldier just like another is hard to swallow. I've never been much for the whole military privilege thing but how you so casually compare a traitor to a soldier is difficult for me to comprehend. I wouldn't even compare him to a Muslim, as he's nothing like any that I know.

I'm not even emotional about this. I seriously and respectfully think that your thinking here is really incorrect, and I have a hard time relating your opinion to men I know who served in Bosnia as well. Not saying you aren't a vet, but you seem to be an outlier here.

I'm not at all on board with saddling this on Trudeau, btw. My understanding is that this was set in motion, legally speaking, a long time ago.

Please feel free to change my view. Meanwhile I say fuck Omar Khadr.
