Had a similar Christmas… Not in-laws, but we invited my actual parents (brexiteers, Tory voters, although they said they’re “not voting” next time…) over for Christmas after two years - hadn’t seen my dad since I came out as trans two years ago, he pretty much disowned me but apparently mum said they’re trying to make an effort etc so anyway we invited them over. Not ten minutes in before I got deadnamed, it happened again later and I spent most of the afternoon in the kitchen and my partner had to keep them chatting. My mum thought we were both being as bad as each other as if I was doing something wrong. Hugely regret inviting them over and they ruined my otherwise really nice Christmas. Don’t know how people can be so ignorant about literally everything.
