Living in apartment for 2 years now. Get a letter from landlord saying they didn't have original application

I was the worlds worst leasing agent for some years. I forgot to collect signatures on legal documents, forgot to collect money on things that needed a deposit, and lost applications. 9 times out of 10 I forgot to file my paperwork and things disappeared into the black abyss of my desk.

One day we got bought out. Cue the audits. Cue the panic. Cue the realizing the Property Manager was about to get fired because I misplaced, lost, burnt, applications for residents that lived there for five years. It wasn't her fault, really, she didn't realize how bad I sucked. I leased apartments left and right, but I still sucked. The best idea to cover her ass and mine? Back date those bastardly applications. Thankfully, long time residents loved me enough to do so. They understood. They knew I was a ditz, they simply helped hide it from the new owners. It was far easier than trying to forge a signature, why do that when I could just ask them to redo it? There were even those who I just never got an application for....despite it being required. Whoopsy daisy.

100% guarantee it's not a scam. 100% guarantee you're just saving someone's ass because they (or some idiot leasing agent before then) forgot (or lost) your application.
