LPT: There are still 10,000 puppy mills in the United States. If you're buying a dog, insist on seeing the breeder's facilities.

My parents got a wolf-dog puppy a few months before I was born. I'm not sure what typical wolf-dogs are like, but he was half German Shepherd, and had the frame of a Shepherd, but was about 75% the size. He was all black, had bright yellow eyes, and was fiercely loyal to those of us he saw on a daily basis, and fiercely aggressive towards everyone else. My uncle came over for a BBQ once, and when Dublin saw him in the backyard at first, he took off towards my uncle so fast he splintered one of his claws. His aggressive-towards-strangers nature made him a good guard dog but when we had guests over, we had to keep him in a kennel where he wouldn't notice the new humans.

My extended family had a lot of German Shepherds, and any time we brought Dublin along, he was always the smallest one, but the other dogs always kept their distance from him.

He urinated on my crib when I was still small enough to have one, and was always incredibly loving towards my sister and I, even as kids. He lived to be 17, and although I would never recommend the average person just go out and adopt a wolf-dog like my parents did (especially with a newborn on the way), I can say he was one of the most memorable dogs we've ever had. Again, I have no idea what typical wolf-dogs are like, but I figured I'd share my experience.
