LPT: When uploading an image to a website to save time you can copy and paste a URL of the image, instead of downloading it to your computer and uploading it.

Oh I can understand if it just acts as a direct link, you could lose a epic amount of bandwidth, but on the plus side, a link to ones website would be spread around, and I believe some web hosts let you turn it off if it becomes a problem.

I think and please somebody correct me if I am wrong, hotlinking is more geared to websites that avoid hosting there own images, by stealing the images of other sites.

lets say i have a website that has pictures of waffles. If instead of having my web gallery hosted on my server, I just use hotlinks, it would be both morally wrong, stealing bandwith, and also a risk, because then the links could break at a whim, and they would have to be replaced. (Photobucket anybody?)

Most (bigger) websites take a copy of the image, so that way they have there own version, that was put up in case of a take down or replacement, and so bandwith is not stolen. So linking an image tells said website, hey bro, I like that image so much, I am going to make a copy.
