why do we have so many officejet models?

Why do we have so many officejet models?

Because there are many different customers buying on: price, features, size, even color..

I always have a hard time explaining

Well those days are over young easytech!.

HP 8610
Auto document feeder capable of 25pages/No duplex scanning
Letter size flatbed only
HP 8620
Auto document feeder capable of 50pages/auto duplex scanning
Legal flatbed
Larger display panel
HP 8630
All the same things the 8620 has including:
Second paper tray
Second set of ink
HP 57XX Series
Uses older style black/tri-color cartridge (good for low yield/infrequent printing customers
Dedicated photo paper tray
Removable paper tray
HP 46XX Series
Similar to the 57XX series just lacking removable/dedicated photo paper tray(s)
Hard to load smaller items: ex) small envelopes
HP 38XX Series
For the customer that is looking for the cheapest piece of shit they can find. These customers don't generally care about features, since they are looking to pay <$50
Keep in mind

Almost all of the above are wireless, most if not all are 4-1. All but the cheapest ones will duplex.

The distinguishing features between models is normally going to be: ink yield, scanner, paper handling.

Role play

Ma'am I see you like this printer, let me ask you do you print photos?

Yes I do!

This may not be a good choice, see how hard it is to get anything other then letter paper in this one. I recommend 57XX model due to the removable paper tray & dedicated photo paper tray.

How much do you print a month?

About 1000 pages.

The 57XX may not be a good choice, I would recommend this 8610. Do you ever want to scan legal or, would you like to be able to copy a 2 sided document automatically?

Yes I print a lot of letter and legal, and hate switching paper, and deffinately need a legal flat bed scanner.

You know I would recommend the 8630 Since it has a second tray and a legal flat bed scanner.

Wow I wasn't looking to spend that much.

Well keep in mind it comes with another set of ink, however you could get by with the 8620 which has a legal flatbed, and a single tray.
