McKinney officer resigns due to video of pulling gun on teens.

My mom worked at the dept all my life (not a cop), so I've grown up around cops. They're people too, just doing their jobs, facing extraordinary stresses many couldn't understand. However, there are always going to be those few that power trip, and I got to meet one of them a few years back.

I was heading out of my sub with my MIL and there's a pickup at the curb, a cruiser in the middle of the street, and they were chatting. No lights, nothing to indicate anything official was going on. After waiting a solid minute for the cop to unblock the street so traffic could pass, I tapped my horn to make him aware there was traffic waiting. Well, he wrapped up his converstion, let me pass, and promptly pulled me over. We waited 10 minutes for him to approach the car. I was pissed but wasn't disrespectful while explaining my intent with the tap. He was also respectful but made it clear his discussion was of much greater importance than my impatience. I end up with a ticket for using my horn in a non-emergency situation (city ordinance) after another 10 minutes of waiting while he wrote it.

Of course I fought it, and yes he showed up. The judge asked me why I didn't go around the cruiser, and I replied I figured I would get a ticket if I did. That got a few chuckles from behind me. He got the officer to concede that I would have had to go into an oncoming traffic lane to get around him, and that his converstion was not an emergency and could have taken place elsewhere instead of impeding traffic. The real clenched though was when the judge asked him why he didn't just move his cruiser when I tapped my horn and the cop responded "I just thought it wa inappropriate, your honor". The judge said we don't give tickets for being inappropriate and had it removed.
