Men of Reddit, at what age did you wanted/realised an opportunity to become independent from parents? And what was your first step of doing so?

Around 16 really. I had finished high school and mentalities change. During school it had been "do well in school" but when you go to college it becomes "start prepping for the rest of your life now; Courses to take, potential further learning at University etc" .

Once I got on that train of thought, started my first part time job as well, I thought "I need to start looking into my own place". While the sterotypes of parents are always trying to get you to leave, mine were super supportive and said I was free to stay but would even help me look if I was really serious.

Finally moved out at 18, and havn't looked back. Now 31 living with my wife/child etc.
