Mike Bloomberg supporters: why?

Trump is not a populist, Trump is a demagogue. There's a significant difference there.

Bernie is a populist only in one meaning of the word. It's not how I'm accustomed to using it, but I'm not going to call it invalid.

Populist: someone who adopts a position aimed at benefiting the majority of people, for the purpose of advancing that politician's own career.

In other words: a populist is a politician motivated by self-interest, but who sincerely adopts and supports a popular position in order to benefit themselves.

Demagogue: someone who proclaims a position wanted by the majority of people, purely for the purpose of advancing that politician's own career.

In other words: a demagogue is basically someone who is pretending to be a populist.

By these definitions, Trump is a demagogue and Bernie is neither a demagogue nor a populist.
