curious why you asked her to marry you knowing what she has to give up?

i am in a similar situation to your GF. both my parents died when i was 23. i am the only child so i inherited their property. they didn't have cash/money. were not rich but i did inheritate a fully paid off $1 million 2 bedroom apartment located in the middle of the city. fantastic location.

i didn't have to pay rent again for my entire life. i know i am lucky. anyway. because of this i chose early on that i will not get married to anyone unless they themselves can match. basically i am just scared of gold diggers wanting a free home.

i was with my ex for 10 yrs. we never lived together or got married. he understood that i was trying to protect my assets financially. we spoke about living together and marriage but i basically told him i didn't feel comfortable knowing he will be living in my 1 mill fully paid off apartment and he will be living there for free.

we basically agreed to be together. not live together and not be married.

anyways we eventually broke up for other reasons. i am in my mid 30s now and don't have kids and plan on just using a sperm donor.
