My coworker brought sugar to the office for her coffee and labeled it. One of the attorneys I work with responded...

Not meant as a rebuke - just anecdotal and I feel like sharing;

The other night I got locked out of my apartment, so I call a locksmith who quoted me for $15 on the phone to let me in.

He shows up, opens it in literally 10 seconds, and when I ask him how much I owe him says $200.

We argue and I tell him he can bill me and we'll settle it in the morning (its around 2AM). I begin to close my door and he rams it, then forces his way into my apartment by breaking the bottom two hinges off the front door. I try to close it again and hes pushing against the other side of the door for what felt like forever and trying to grab at my arms through the gap.

I push him outside and tell my girlfriend to hide in the bathroom with the dog and lock the door, because I am convinced at this point he is definitely NOT a real locksmith.

I run down the walkway and call the cops and explain quickly what happened and ask him to step away from my apartment and wait by the curb for the police to come (he was still lurking around the entryway). He refuses. At this point Im super scared. My girlfriend is crying in the bathroom with my dog and this asshole is between me and them.

Kicking into protector no-bullshit mode I walk over, pick up his toolbag and drop it 8 feet off the walkway into the bushes below hoping he'll go after it. He doesnt, so I announce that Im going to get a weapon and that he should get away from my house. I grabbed a tiny paring knife from my kitchen and walk towards him, and he sprints away.

I called 911 again and explained that I was now in my apartment and that I chased him off.

Cops show up 30 minutes later, knock on the unhinged door (we couldnt close it at all until 3 days later when my landlord finally fixed it) and explain to me that they arent going to arrest me because its been a long night - and that theyve gathered his tool bag and that I should pay for his allegedly broken tools (which I guess they spent time apraising before talking to me? (Also theres no way in hell anything but eggs broke in that dudes big canvas toolthing)) and that theyll contact me with a court date.

The worst part was that they had already decided what went down before they ever talked to me.

Instead of talking to me they went and collected, photographed and apparently appraised the tools before they checked the break-in and assault call victim. They treated me like a criminal. Im on honestly pretty traumatised by the experience. I don't even understand what Im supposed to do with this information.

I am NOT a confrontational guy at all, and Ive never had any run in with the law ever before. This was not some frat-bro trying to pull one over on a working guy (I feel like thats how they interpreted it). I also feel that despite my terror I acted in a rational way which was in no way unwarranted by the situation. Im afraid theyre going to charge me and give me a criminal record for being attacked and being young enough not to be a "credible" witness

Ugh I want to same more but Im going to stop ranting.
