My friends claim I say "problematic shit." Am I really racist?

It is really hard to come to conclusions based on one example. I am trying to be unbiased-- remember there are always two sides to a story. I say this because, of course, based on this example, none of us feel there is anything problematic with what you said. There can be a multitude of factors-- how you say things, implications, generalizations, and possibly, in this case, it can be the accumulation of many past "problematic" things you may have said and this small thing was a tipping point.

To the other redditors, it is really easy to come to a conclusion of the friends based on this example. You have to consider there are two sides to every story.

I think you should have a sit-down conversation and talk to them seriously about it. Let them know it's not how you intend to come across and ask how you can improve yourself. If you feel they truly are being irrational, then so be it-- no need to be defensive. If they felt you were a bad person, they probably would not have said that to you and walked away from your friendship. Have an open mind, as sometimes we fail to see how we project ourselves. There is always the possibility they are blowing it out of proportion, but I will not come to that conclusion based on this example alone.
