My friend's hobby is people watching (The beautiful people of FFXIV)

Well no, I didn't mean so much that it has more backstory than regular final fantasies; forgive my wording. I just meant that the lore in it is extremely complex. That's not to say that the other final fantasies aren't complex as well, as many of them are, like you said, particularly the newer ones. What I meant was, since it is an MMO and meant to be played for long periods of time, the story within the land is quite large, and ever growing. The game in its current state has only been out two years, and with each patch (every 3 months) they delve deeper and deeper into the lore and storyline, uncovering things that we previously unknown before. With the success of the game, and the history of such successful MMOs such as WoW and FFXI, it will probably be going for 10 years or longer. Ten years of content is a lot more than you can put into a single RPG that generally runs 80 hours at the most--not including sidequests. Not to mention, to my knowledge and from what I've been told from my fellow gamers who play a variety of different MMOs, this is one of the most story-driven out there. I don't like MMOs generally for many reasons: The community, the graphics, how many lock you into a certain race for certain jobs, terrible UIs, and lackluster content. FFXIV is the only MMO (other than XI) that I've played for longer than a week or two, and it's because it genuinely feels like a final fantasy. I don't favor one genre over another (MMO or standard RPG), I just meant that there is something to this game that many MMOs lack, at least, to me there is. It's not for everyone, but I personally feel that people shouldn't write it off simply because it's an MMO. SE gives this game just as much love as far as story goes as other games in the series.
