My therapist said therapy alone won’t help me

I had a similar convo with my therapist early on and it still comes up sometimes. I wholeheartedly agree that some people benefit from medication and have no judgement towards those who choose that route. It can be beneficial short term or long term.

It just isn’t the route for me. Not now at least. I have a handful of reasons why, but it is a hard line for me. While my therapist pushed the medication route, he was able to explain it would help create more immediate relief that could speed the therapeutic process. Repeatedly reminding me that choosing not to take meds would mean therapy would take much longer. Maybe I’m an idiot, but it’s the choice I’m making.

Taking meds doesn’t make you “insert anything”. If you choose to explore that option it doesn’t have to be forever. Or it can be.

But choosing not to take medication doesn’t mean therapy can’t help. I really hope you heard your therapist wrong. If not, it may be time to find someone who can work with you where you’re at.
