They were two diferent cultures in the most uniform part of Europe that were both good at doing the same things. If we put Central Asia under the same stamdards we would need 12 more civs before the area is fully covered and those tribes would be way more influential (in the aoe2 timeline that is) than Franks when compared to Normans. Leave Normans alone, Franks were already partly based out of them and if they and the Burgundians cant add anything new just leave them wit

And yes we didnt need Portuguese, Poles (well, not Poles themselves but having both Poles and Liths in the same game is the problem since Lithuania was added to represent the Polish Lithuanian army to begin with), Huns (because they were too shorlived), Bohemians (their deathball is basically the same as the Teuton one), Burgundians (I really enjoy them outside of the Revolt but they are both shortlasting as a regional power and too much. If you are going to divide rather have Javanese who are actually diferent culturally from Malay than what is a subculture of the Franks. It just seems like a lazy excuse to add more Euro civs.

Koreans and Tatars have their own historically accurate identities despite the strong Chinese and Mongol influence, and they had a lot of doferences in culture anyway.
