New research suggests young people are going off sex

The Mosuo men and women don't have the economic fears we do over raising children. They have a different system. When children are born, the mother and her family takes care of them. The children don't stay with the fathers. There are male influences, uncles that help raise the children. It's a matriarchy. The households are composed of multiple generations.

They don't practice marriage as we know it either. They have sex with whoever they choose. One of the people interviewed said they get offended when someone becomes possessive over another's sexual autonomy. Here in the west and most other places, it's the expected norm that our sexuality is owned by our partner.

It begins with this conversation with a Mosuo lady.

"The couples here don't share assets and work separately."

"They only spend the sweet nights together."

"We believe that if the two are no longer in love, they should split peacefully."

"So, what's the point of getting married? Right?"

"Why would you want the marriage license to handcuff yourself?"
