Has anyone been following world news? India has just had a ground breaking rape case end in an unprecedented 7 year sentencing for the convicted rapist. Like this case and others recently it highlights the accomplishments and life achievements of the rapist and tries to dissuade the conviction as being equal to the crime.

We live in a very sad world when the concern about conviction aligns with how the criminals lives will be changed over what they call a "poor decision" or "small indiscretion". The victims live with the damages for the rest of their lives. I can not tolerate that the emotional trauma that remains for them is so easily overlooked.

Why anyone could justify a violent act that takes away another persons freedom over something that is uniquely theirs, especially when they describe it as life changing to the aggressor is unbelievable. It should be life changing. The punishment for the pain and suffering inflicted on their victims should damage the sense of security and future they once had. That is how we show this behavior is not acceptable. The damage is life long for a victim, it should be for the rapist as well.
