This happened shortly after I left high school and everyone heard about it right away but more details emerged later.

These siblings I went to school with’s father was the police chief of our mid-sized city. He was actually a great guy. I played football with the son and we were pretty good friends, so I knew the dad well enough. When the daughter was a senior she daughter started dating an older, married, druggie (an attempt to rebel from her cop dad?). The daughter ended up getting pregnant and broke things off with the guy, because she wanted to not have him around the baby until he got clean. The druggie guy assumed it was her dad that made her break it off, so he viciously attacked the father while he was off duty (no weapons on his person). Made him a vegetable for the rest of his life.

Later, I heard from people who were closer to/had more dealings with the druggie that for a few days after the daughter broke things off with him he was doing A LOT of meth and who knows what else. During that drug induced psychosis he told a bunch of people that the family were devil worshippers and they were going to sacrifice the child to satan. He convinced himself that he had to “take out” the leader of their coven. He was actually a pretty religious person, so I think region + heavy drugs after a break up made a fatal combination. I say fatal because the guy committed suicide shortly after.
