Okay breastfeeding parents: how did you wean your baby from night feeds?

I invented ("invented") my own method. The doc said to try cutting one feed at a time but it didn't work so instead I just shortened them all - all at once. She was waking 3 times and nursing until she was full. So I started cutting her off just before I knew she was done. She was pissed, but it was almost enough so she dealt with it and went back to bed. Then after a day or two I cut her off even earlier. I moved it back from ~3 to 5 min per feed to about a minute - and then I got real mean. I'd let her latch and get a few gulps then cut her off. She was so mad about it - but she already wasn't getting much so she adjusted - and then one day I just picked her up, kissed her, said I'm sorry no nursing tonight and put her down. And she was mad about it for a few days but again - she was already used to not getting what she wanted and she happens to really enjoy sleep. So... she just sort of accepted the reality.
