I think it’s been made apparent to more people since 2017, but we really don’t have anywhere to fall if you think about it. America is a shithole that’s currently being run by the Christian equivalent of the Taliban with the sole purpose of world destruction. It’s strange, but it’s not exactly outside of our usual realm of possibility. I mean, pretty much every president dating back to at least Harry Truman has been a piece of shit to some degree. Most of them war criminals, but all of them certainly money hungry politicians who couldn’t give a shit about the American people. And why should they? It’s all about minority rule anyway, so all they have to do is appeal to a certain number of idiots and they’re pretty much locked in. Trump is a symptom that makes these issues a bit more glaring, but they certainly are not new issues.

I think I could hear an argument that post-WWII America was really on top of everything, but that’s a short “good” period for a country that claims to be the greatest in the world. Let’s not forget that women and people of color have only really been recognized as equal for like less than a hundred years. And that if you look a bit further into our history you’ll find millions and millions of stories of tragedy and death between things like slavery and the systematic removal of the native population.

We’re a shithole that tricked the people into thinking we weren’t a shithole, but now the leader is so much of a shithead that it’s just been made more obvious to the people that we are a shithole.
