PC gamer Article suggesting Valve do more for CS:GO

okay, so you are commenting on about an unreleased engine that in-fact has no game release as of now or ever has been released. now "that's a fact" that it runs better than source?

at this point, i'm not even sure you know what optimization is. "optimization" is not a catch all term to make a new game somehow run on shitty machines. you don't just "optimize" a new engine so it can run on potatoes. optimization for a new engine will make the game run better on mid-high end machines. this is how it works, a new engine gets released, it looks better, has better physics, better lighting, better effects and it is able to run on mid-high level machines. this is what they want. i mean if a new engine ran better on lower end machines, why the fuck are we upgrading ours PCs?

i'm going to look at your whole argument here.

it will probably run even better on low-end machines.

Valve is a company about incremental updates and let's "assume" in your case that Source 2 will be another incremental update expanding on the games code rather than a big release. if Source 2 is a big release like from goldsrc to source. your argument is entirely invalid. a brand new engine "NO MATTER HOW OPTIMIZED" will not run on lower end computers that could barely run Source 1.

these are taken at times of release since some of the earlier stuff has been updated.

Half-Life 2 (2004) RECCOMMENDED: CPU: 2.4 GHz Processor,
RAM: 512MB RAM, VGA: DirectX 9 level Graphics Card

Half-Life 2: Episode Two (2007) RECCOMMENDED: CPU: 3.4 GHz Processor, RAM: 1024 MB, VGA: Radeon X800 or Geforce 6800

Left 4 Dead 2 (2009) RECCOMMENDED CPU: Intel core 2 duo 2.4GHz, RAM: 1 GB for XP / 2GB for Vista, VGA: DirectX 9 compatible video card with Shader model 3.0. NVidia 7600, ATI X1600 or better

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (2012) MINIMUM CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 or AMD Phenom X3 8750 processor or better, RAM: 2 GB, Video Card: Video card must be 256 MB or more and should be a DirectX 9-compatible with support for Pixel Shader 3.0

Except Dota2 with Source 2 runs better than with the original Source engine.

any sources on that? do you happen to work at valve?

But the Source 2 version that is in development does run better than the original Source version, that's a fact.

sources?

during presentation of the Source 2 at Valve it was said during left4dead 2 on source 2 "updated version of the Plantation map from Left 4 Dead 2 with enhanced lighting and shadows, improved foliage, and higher quality models."

how do you expect that optimization can run enhanced lighting, improved foliage and higher quality models on older machines?
