Pearls Before Swine strip pulled from syndication today

This reminded me of the Doonsbury "I thee rape" comic from a few years ago. That strip got pulled from some papers too. Garry Trudeau is no stranger to controversy, having strips pulled for:

  • condemning Nixon for Watergate
  • a minor character coming out as gay
  • suggesting smoking causes cancer
  • spreading a rumor about Dan Quayle knowing drug dealers
  • portraying W. Bush as having the lowest IQ of any president
  • showing B.D. lost his leg in Iraq

Trudeu's strips were consistently pulled from 1972 to 2012. That's 40 years of pulling a liberal's strips for making liberal jokes or referencing liberal issues.

But when Stephan Pastis, a staunch conservative, gets his strip pulled these are sensitive times. Having controversial strips pulled isn't something that other people in his industry have been dealing with since he was 8 years old. It's a new, unique issue for Stephan Pastis the special snowflake. The world just isn't ready for his edgy commentary about wiretapping. He should whine more about it to Twitter.
