Do people actually have good reasons for going into med school?

Well, obviously that's a big reason to go into the profession..but it's the same for everyone. It's just an assumed reason you're going into medicine. That's why it's important to have another additional or more personal reason to go into medicine. Anyone saying they don't care about the stability and other factors associated with being a physician is lying.

I don't particularly think everyone is "bull shitting." Obviously, at 22 years old or if you're just a normal person, it's likely you won't have any major transformative experiences. But especially at the higher echelon of schools, a lot people do have deep and meaningful reasons to go into medicine that are clear from their narrative.

Just as an example, someone I met at admitted students visit day for a t5 was a person who had a chronic illness since early childhood. They had mentioned the only reason they knew they wanted to go into medicine was to create awareness, advance treatment, and generally support this population/illness because it's not very common and the affected population is underserved. Simple yet very meaningful and personal narrative.
