People of Reddit, What are your "core memories" (a la Inside Out)?

  1. My very first memory is of when I was 2 and my family got in our old white van ("the moon-mobile") and drove out to this dusty rural location where we met up with a woman who was giving away a litter of puppies. We picked out a puppy and took it home. Peanut would be our family dog (and the ultimate loving companion) for the next 15 years... We loved that dog so fucking much!

  2. Meeting my friend Carly in 1st grade. She was the friend who loved legos and pokemon, a jehovahs witness who dressed a bit oddly, and was never afraid to be herself. I might have been her only friend, but she didn't care about popularity. We were very close until we finished elementary and had to go to different junior highs.

  3. A day in 4th grade when we got to wear pajamas to school. I had a teacher who gave us creative writing time every day and helped us "publish" our stories (bind them and make laminated covers), then we'd have to read our stories to the class. I remember being so nervous to share what I'd written for the first time, like, paralyzed. But I managed to do it and everybody loved my story. Later that day when I came home, my mom told me that my hamster had died. That hamster was the best y'all. RIP Frederick.

  4. Moving to texas when I was 12. That sucked.

  5. Getting surgery on my foot that same year (age 12) and crutching around a middle school where I had no friends. I was so miserable that my mom just took me out of school for a month. But they had me on pain medication that made me sick, so I was miserable at home too. I read a lot of books during that month, started reading from the adult section and got really into fantasy (with lots of sex and violence lol).

There's a lot more probably but that's what came to mind. That kind of stuff shaped me into the massive nerd that I am today.
