People who speak a second language - what have you overheard people saying about you when they thought you couldn't understand?

Was a regular at a grocery store, with my wife, in India. Two guys owned and ran the store & we've never had any problems with them before this. Back then we were running a new business ourselves & when we saw these young guys running a new store we helped them out by setting them up with a distributor for packaged drinking water which they would deliver to every home in our apartment & we personally recommended them to everyone. Anyways as it's said - there's no good deed that goes unpunished.

Context : My wife does not speak the regional language that was spoken in this place, I did... but we both spoke Hindi because pretty much everyone in this location spoke it & we did too... it was less translation work for me & convenient.

So one casual grocery shopping Sunday, we're at the store & we inquire about something like Cheetos or something, they did not have any & while we were discussing an alternative I heard one of the guys say to the other something about how we're both unmatched & don't "suit" each-other. I asked the guy, in Hindi, what was it that he said... he think it's about the Cheetos & says we don't have any & then turn to the other guy & says something about my wife being fat & me being ugly & dark... 1 minute I'm telling the guy I speak the language & watching his face go pale (or dark, whichever you prefer)... then I remember getting angrier as I recalled what he said & then well I lost my shit!

Long story short smashed the guys face into the billing desk breaking his nose & the swiping machine. Scared the shit out of his coworker & also my wife. Not a glorious moment but couldn't handle his comment about my wife.
