Pizza Delivery Drivers of Reddit, would you recommend your job to others?

I've delivered for a dominos for 5 years. First off its not very safe. I'm lucky enough to have never been robbed, but I know 2 people who have been by gun point. I know 2 other people who were jumped by gangs of men, one whom refused to go to the hospital after, finished his shift and died from a concussion going to sleep later that night. I myself had a pit bull try to eat me, and still have the scar. But a lotnl of his can be avoided by just being careful. Scope out a situation use some logic etc. At dominos I got paid hourly, milage, and obviously tips. Some places don't give you hourly, such as papa jons, but make up for it by paying higher milage. Overall, it's a very easy job, 70% of your shift is in your car. I've been told by other dominos I'm in a good tip area, so it makes a huge difference and I've gone years making almost over 20k a year with only 35 hour weeks. Now let's get into your car, this is the most important part. Lots of maintainece is needed. Gas easily evens itself out and isn't an issue, but you're looking at oil changes at the very least once a month, new tires almost every 6 years. I've out about 35k miles a year on my car. If you're not responsible with car maintainece you won't last long, but then again maybe you won't need to stay long. And again if you're not going to stay long definitely don't tell your current insurance about your job. They will drop you or change your policy. In most states you would be required to have commercial insurance. But as long as your name is on your insurance policy your employer won't care. Overall I've heard terrible things about delivering for papa jons, and they don't give their drivers hourly. Pizza Hut I'd normal but I'd say not as popular, so dominos would probably be best. It's a very very easy job as long as you are responsible to recognize the risks and have the forethought for your vehicle.
